Ryo Maclean is a half-japanese police detective tranferring to the 27th Precinct of the NYPD. On his first day he is partnered with Dee Laytner - a loud detective who has very little regard for rules and is all too happy to let Ryo do most of his work. He's also openly bisexual and has no problem with letting Ryo know he fancies him.
On their first case together they meet Bikky Goldman, the son of the recently murdered drug dealer, Dick Goldman. Not only is Bikky perhaps their only link to the drug dealers who murdered his father, he's also an orphan, which is something he has in common with both Ryo and Dee. So - as he investigates Goldman's death - Ryo decides to take Bikky in and look after him... Basically... Fake is a yaoi manga [that's a manga involving an explicit homosexual relationship] by Sanami Matoh. In this case the explicitness is just in the final volume, although Dee has some pretty explicit intent going on from the moment he appears in volume 1. The main story consists of 7 manga volumes and 1 OAV [which really just tells the story from the 1st act of volume 2] but there is also a short sequel called 'Like, Like, Love', which is set several years after the end of the manga. It's About... The story of Fake is, at it's most basic level, the story of how Dee and Ryo meet, fall in love and come to terms with being in love. However, at a not-so-basic level, it's also the story of how Ryo finds his parents' murderer; how Bikky and Carol fall in love; how Ryo, Bikky and Dee cope with becoming a family, not to mention the stories of the cases they solve along the way [because they are detectives...] | ![]() | ||
